It is of no surprise that the telecom giant, Reliance Jio has been dominating the telecom network sector with its low budget plans as well as with its low budget phone series known as the JioPhones. Along with the low budget JioPhones, it was rumoured that the telecom giant was also secretly working on introducing its own low budget laptop series dubbed the JioBook. It was rumoured way back in 2018 that Jio was working on a low budget laptop series that would run on its own custom OS based on the Android platform. The custom OS was dubbed as the JioOS. The laptop was rumoured to support basic Jio apps and as well as a 4G LTE connection.

Through various reports, it has been confirmed that Jio had partnered up with a Dutch Android developing company, XDA Developers and a Chinese tech company, Bluebank communication for the development of the JioBook. As per XDA Developers, the commencement of the JioBook project had started in early September of last year and is expected to continue through the first half of 2021. After that, the JioBook is expected to be sent for a Product Validation Test in mid-April.

Based on a report by XDA Developers, the current prototype features a 1,366×768 pixels resolution. The JioBook is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC processor. While in development the laptop was found to be tested in various spec variations like there was a 2GB LPDDR4x RAM variant along with  32GB of eMMC storage as well as a 4GB LPDDR4x RAM along with a 64GB eMMC 5.1 storage. The laptop also features a Snapdragon X12 4G modem.

The laptop is rumoured to feature a three-axis accelerometer and also a Qualcomm audio chip. As for the connectivity, the laptop has a mini HDMI connector, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

The custom JioOS is said to come with a few pre-installed apps such as JioMeet, JioStore and JioPages. The laptop is also believed to feature some pre-installed Microsoft apps like Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Edge.

Till now, there have been no official announcements on behalf of Reliance Jio about the laptops pricing and the launch date. However, the laptop may be available in the market by the end of this year.
