There was a rumour going around since the few past months that Samsung was working on a new gadget. This new gadget was rumoured to be a tracking device. Recently, it was found that Samsung had filed a certification in Taiwan’s National Communications Commission (NCC) regarding a device which matches all the previous rumours. As per the certification, it could be confirmed that the name of the new tracking device by Samsung is the Galaxy SmartTag having the model number- EI-T5300.

Based on previous rumours, this new SmartTag device can be linked to a smartphone via Bluetooth. The SmartTag device can be physically attached to any item that the user may want too, like wallets or keys and can be tracked on the linked smartphone. This Bluetooth tracker is also believed to be compatible with Samsung’s SmartThings which will in return allow the device to track the smartphone if required by the user.

The exact same model number- EI-T5300 was also found to be listed on an Indonesian certification website and also on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) site.

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag expected specs

As per the images on the certification websites, the Galaxy SmartTag having the model number- EI-T5300 seems to have a rounded square shape and a lanyard-shaped hole for a cord or strap. The gadget will be powered by a single, replaceable 3V CR2032 button cell. The device is also believed to have a button on it, which can be pressed to find the connected phone. There seems to be an onboard buzzer that can help users find the tracker.

The tracker is certified to support Bluetooth 5.1. It is also believed to work with Samsung’s SmartThings Find feature.

Samsung Galaxy SmartTag expected price

Based on previous leaks, the new SmartTag device will be priced at EUR 15 (roughly ₹1,300).

The tracker will be launched in two colour variants- white and black. However, as per the South Korean certification authority’s database, the Samsung Galaxy SmartTag will be available in black and oatmeal colour.

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag which is quite similar to the Tile tracker seems to be Samsung’s answer to the rumoured Apple AirTags.

Samsung is likely to unveil the Galaxy SmartTag alongside its Galaxy S21 series later this month.

The expected launch date of both the Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy S21 series is January 14.
